Wolverine wrestlers place at Mariner Tournament| WRESTLING NOTEBOOK

Several Bellevue wrestlers placed at the Mariner Holiday Tournament last Saturday at Mariner High in Everett.

Bellevue’s Josh Speizle went 3-0 with two falls to win the 130-pound weight class. Teammate Jun Park took second in the 135-pound weight class, going 3-1 with two falls.

Matt Casimes (112 pounds) went 4-1 with three falls to take third, as did teammate Erik Ovens in the 160-pound class. Jin Park took third in the 285-pound class, finishing 2-1 with one fall.

Connor Hudson (135) took fourth place for Bellevue.

The Wolverines finished fifth in team points with 80. Mariner won the tournament with 139 points.

Wrestling rankings out

The first wrestling rankings from Washingtonwrestlingreport.com have several area wrestlers ranked in their top-10.

Interlake’s Brandae Grein is ranked sixth in the girls rankings for the 152-pound weight class. The junior at International School finished sixth at the state tournament last year.

Newport’s Kevin McCanta ranked sixth in the 152-pound weight class for Class 4A.

In 3A, Bellevue’s Erik Ovens was ranked sixth in the 152-pound class and Will Fields was ranked as ninth in the 189-pound class. Bellevue’s Jin Hong Park was ranked eighth in the 285-pound class.

Interlake’s sole ranked wrestler was Christian Schultz (7th, 145-pounds).
