Off to a fast start

Bellevue-area high schools kick off new cross-country season at Lake Sammamish State Park.

The cross-country season got off to a quick start for four Bellevue-area high schools on Sept. 11. Bellevue, Interlake, Newport and Sammamish all had runners compete at the KingCo two-mile Class Race at Lake Sammamish State Park. Both the boys and girls teams competed only against runners in their grade level. The two-mile-long race provided runners with a shorter race to start the season.

Hale Behan from Sammamish finished first in the boys 11th-grade race (9:55.00). Bellevue’s Katherine Forseberg finished second in the girls 12th-grade race (11:20.80). Also from Bellevue, Mary Brockenbrough finished fifth in the girls 11th-grade race (12:16.00). Interlake’s Sasha Picciotto placed seventh in the boys 12th-grade race (10:11.30). Brent Nakashima from Newport placed third in the boys 11th-grade race (9:52.60).
