Novikova cruises to districts

Nikole Novikova of Bellevue claimed the KingCo 3A singles title for the second time in her high school career, defeating Anissa Bryant-Swift of Sammamish 6-0, 6-3 in the championship match held at Skyline High School on May 5.

Nikole Novikova of Bellevue claimed the KingCo 3A singles title for the second time in her high school career, defeating Anissa Bryant-Swift of Sammamish 6-0, 6-3 in the championship match held at Skyline High School on May 5.

Novikova, the 2006 singles state champion, and Bryant-Swift, who finished sixth in state last year, both qualify for the SeaKing District Tournament.

Also qualifying for districts as singles players are Audrey Motto of Interlake (third place), Tomomi Matsushita of Newport (fourth) and Sara Ebrahimi of Bellevue (fifth).

Chelsea Bailey and Michele Zemplenyi of Mercer Island defeated Lani Nunokawa and Meredith Jewett of Newport 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-3 to claim the KingCo 3A doubles title and qualified for state.
