Newport sees early lead slip away against Islanders

The Newport Knights (0-3) dropped their third straight game in a back-and-forth 27-17 loss to the Mercer Island Islanders (2-1) on Sept. 20. After falling behind 7-0, the Knights scored on two separate 50-yard touchdown runs from quarterback Nolan Rouse and running back Nirun Turner to take a 14-7 lead after the first quarter. In the final three quarters, the Knights were outscored 20-3 by the Islanders. Next up on the schedule for the Knights is a road game against the Skyline Spartans (2-1) at 7 p.m. on Sept. 27.
