DeCastro puts up state-best mark in shot put

David DeCastro of Bellevue exploded for a state-best throw of 58 feet, 4 inches to win the shot put at the SeaKing 3A District championships Wednesday at the Southwest Athletic Complex in West Seattle.

David DeCastro of Bellevue exploded for a state-best throw of 58 feet, 4 inches to win the shot put at the SeaKing 3A District championships Wednesday at the Southwest Athletic Complex in West Seattle.

DeCastro’s throw bests the previous mark of 57 feet, 1 inch thrown by Hazen’s Andrey Levkiv earlier this year.

Fellow Wolverines Robert Hintz won the boys javelin with a throw of 186-2, while Newport’s Jeremy Taiwo won the triple jump with a mark of 43-6 1/2.

Interlake’s Jason Marks won the pole vault by going 14-6.

Bellevue’s Cadie Kneip won the discus with a throw of 106-4. Natty Plunkett of Newport won the 3,200 in 11:03.43.

Thursday’s results were not available by the Reporter deadline.
