Bellevue College women’s soccer reaches NWAACC semifinals

The Bellevue College women’s soccer team advanced to the NWAACC semifinals for the first time in school history with a 3-2 win over Chemeketa on Nov. 13.

The Bulldogs entered the second half trailing 1-0, but tied things up when Jamie Lindstrom scored in the 46th minute. Sammamish graduate Tina Jacobsen then scored the go-ahead goal in the 80th minute, but Chemeketa tied things up a few minutes later. Lindstrom then scored the game-winning goal in the 88th minute.

The Bulldogs will play defending-champion Walla Walla (13-0-2) on Nov. 20 at 1:30 p.m. at Starfire Complex in Tukwila.

Lindstrom, forward Jessie Oliver, midfielders Brittney Conway and Alayna Herring and defenders Kayla Kasper and Keiko Stafford were named to the NWAACC All-Star team.

Bellevue men lose in second round

Shoreline Community College ended the Bulldog men’s soccer teams season with a 1-0 win on Nov. 13 in the second round of the NWAACC playoffs.

The Bulldogs (12-5-2) entered the playoffs with a 8-4-1 league record and shutout Spokane 3-0 in the first round of the playoffs. Josh Strasser scored two goals for Bellevue while captain Josh Guerrero scored the other Bulldog’s goal. Bellevue graduate Race Sciabica picked up two assists.

“We played great all year and had some ups and downs,” said coach Sasha Shefts. “It’s just unfortunate our season has to end now.”

Strasser was named to the NWAACC Soccer All-Star team for the South-West Region.

Volleyball heads to the NWAACC Volleyball Championship Tournament

The Bulldogs volleyball team will play in the NWAACC Volleyball Championship Tournament, played at Mount Hood Community College in Gresham, Ore., on Nov. 18-20.

The Bulldogs finished up the regular season with a victory over Whatcom Community College, the NWAACC North Region champions.

The Bulldogs beat Whatcom 21-25, 26-24, 25-19, 25-23. Lisa Schouten and Emma Rogel both recorded double-digit kill in the match with 14 and 11, respectively. Veronica Wetzel had 41 assists and Dez Diego led the team defensively with 13 digs.

The Bulldogs end the regular season on a three-game win streak.

Wetzel was named to the North Region All-Star first team. Jessica Weitman and Diego earned second team honors and Kim Culliton was named the North Region Coach of the Year.

Schouten, Wetzel, Diego, Jenessa Reid and Gabby Garrido earned North Regional Volleyball Sophomore Team honors.
