Interlake sweeps districts; area athletes head to state

Interlake swept the boys and girls team titles last Saturday at the West Central 2A district meet at Mount Tahoma High School, as the Saints and other area teams prepare for the state track and field championships this weekend.

The Interlake boys scored 149 points, while the girls scored 137 as both teams crushed their competition. The Saints picked up seven event titles, including wins by Ryuji Kawashima and Olivia Domini in the pole vault competitions. Anson Fredrick (long jump), Qiaoyi (Joy) Zhang won the girls long jump and Summer Hanson took the 400.

Bellevue's Michael Williams won the 3A boys 800 in 1:53.72.

The Bellevue Christian girls finished second at the 1A Tri-District 1/2/3 meet at Woolsey Stadium in Shoreline on Saturday. The Vikings came up just short with 99 points to champion King's, which scored 101.

The Vikings were boosted by a big performance in the 300 hurdles, where Bellevue Christian swept the top-3 spots. Bree Oldham won the event in 46.75 while MacKenzie Altig finished second in 47.00 and Bridget Ralston took third in 47.36. Altig also won the triple jump.

The state track and field championships for 4A/3A/2A will be held at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma on Friday and Saturday. The 1A meet will be at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.
