Former Sammamish coach Alan Guffey passes away

Alan Guffey, Sammamish girls basketball coach for the 2007-2008 season, passed away Wednesday night while undergoing heart surgery in Modesto, Calif.

Guffey was the founder of Washington Tournament Association, a organization that operates youth basketball tournaments for boys and girls.

Guffey was a former coach at Edmonds Community College and Blaine High School. Guffey sold his WTA organization in August and moved to Modesto to be near his family.

He was 62-years-old.
