The Newcastle Baseball 9U Miners recently won the Baseball Player Association's 2009 Washington State Championship with a 9-7 win over Seattle Select.

The Miners had to play back-to-back loser-out games Sunday after losing their second game of the tournament. After winning both games, the Miners outlasted Seattle, ending the game with a called strike three with a Seattle player on third and the tying run at the plate.

The Miners consist of Aaron Barber, Rory Brown, Trevor Curl, Andrew Dietz, Chase McIntosh, Adam Morrison, Ben Patacsil, Zachary Sanidad, Brandon Steinberg, Justin Tucker and coaches Dave McIntosh, Raul Sanidad and Jeff Tucker.

The Newcastle 10U team took second place in its division, while the Newcastle 9U Bulldogs finished 9th.
