Mora, Goodell among those attempting Rainier summit

Seattle Seahawks head coach Jim Mora and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will be among the eight local executives guided by mountaineers Ed Viesturs and Peter Whittaker on an ascent of Mount Rainier on July 5.
Mora, an Interlake alumnus, and Goodell will join Seahawks CEO Tod Leiweke, United Way of King County CEO/President Jon Fine, United Way of King County Board Chair Molly Nordstrom, Costco Senior Vice President John Thelan, Boeing Vice President Fred Kiga and Wells Fargo Regional Managing Director Greg Bronstein on the summit attempt, which will donate all proceeds from the climb to the United Way of King County's Response for Basic Needs program.
The program has thus far raised $2.6 million for its various functions, such as helping food banks acquire additional supplies and extend service hours and form outreach organizations that help people avoid eviction or foreclosure.
Viesturs is the only American climber to summit all fourteen 8,000-meter peaks without supplemental oxygen. Whittaker is a co-owner of Rainier Mountaineering, Inc., the largest guide service in the U.S. and has been a guide for more than 25 years.
