The Newport girls couldn't hold on against a tough Garfield defense, and the Knights fell to the Bulldogs 55-50 in the first round of the 4A state tournament.

Web editor's note: Due to some issues with Twitter today, Joel's updates dropped off at the end of the third quarter. Joel will have his wrap of the game posted here later.

The Newport girls are set to take on Garfield today at 2 p.m. in the opening round of the state 4A tournament.

Bellevue Reporter sports writer Joel Willits will be on hand live blogging the event (much like he did during last night's Bellevue-Rainier Beach boys match-up) on this page. Just check back here around 2 p.m. when we'll turn on the CoverItLive widget below. Joel's Twitter updates will be piped directly into the viewer.

The Issaquah Reporter's Kevin Endejan live blogged a game earlier today between the Eastlake and Auburn Riverside girls and will have coverage of the Issaquah-Jackson game later tonight at 7 p.m.
