Coach: Edd Webb, 2nd year (1-9 record)

Last season: 1-9, 0-8 KingCo 3A

Key departed players: Patrick Rooney, QB; Marcus Giambattista, RB/LB; Brian Biccum, WB/DB; Aram Ikylikian, RB; Billy Mitchell, WR/CB.

Impact players: Cameron Akana, Sr., OL/LB; Louie Randall, Sr., OL/DL; Cody Martinell, Sr., RB/S; Chris Lider, Jr., K/P; Henry Simekha, Jr., RB/LB; Zach Erickson, Jr., RB/LB.

Best kept secret: Cameron Akana, Sr., OL/LB. Akana, also a talented wrestler, has earned All-KingCo honorable mention honors as the Totems starting center the past two seasons.

2008 schedule

9/6 vs. West Seattle at Seattle Memorial Stadium

9/12 vs. Roosevelt

9/19 vs. Juanita

9/26 at Liberty

10/3 vs. Interlake

10/10 at Bellevue

10/17 vs. Mount Si

10/24 at Mercer Island

10/31 at Foster Senior

The Bottom Line: Webb wants to turn the culture around at Sammamish, to get back to the days where the Totems were feared on the field. He’ll have to do it without four-year starter Patrick Rooney and a host of new faces. An experienced offensive line should help ease the pain of breaking in a new quarterback, and the Totems have a bevy of capable runners in the backfield.

Sammamish will also benefit highly from the departures of Issaquah, Skyline and Newport to KingCo 4A. The trio of teams defeated the Totems 155-34 last season.
