Newport wins Scholastic Cup, middle schoolers take water polo title | Sports news

Newport High School is home to the Scholastic Cup champions.

The distinction is awarded from the WIAA based on grade point average from student-athletes, sportsmanship awards and state tournament performance.

The Knights finished with 1870 points in the tabulation, one of the highest ever totals in any classification.

Local middle schoolers win title

Northwest Water Polo's 14U team won the championship at the first annual Pacific Northwest championships, winning each of their seven matches in the tournament.

The program, which includes players from throughout the Eastside and Seattle, fields teams at multiple age groups.
