Newport one win from softball state tournament, Bellevue falls at districts | Prep sports news

Newport is on the doorstep of the 4A state softball tournament, after surviving a 6-5 affair with Skyline in the third place game of the conference tourney to advance to the crossover game.

The Knights won their second straight loser-out game to keep their season alive and set a 2 p.m. May 24 date at Monroe for the final bi-district state berth.

The bearcats won three straight loser-out games in the District 1 tournament.

Bellevue bounced

Bellevue beat Seattle Prep 9-5 in the first game of the 3A Sea-King softball tournament, and nearly earned a state spot before falling to Metro League champ Holy Names 5-4.

West Seattle ended the Wolverines' season in a 4-0 game the May 22 at Lower Woodland Park in Seattle.
