Bellevue CC's Lee takes first at golf tourney, team places second

Bellevue Golfer Richard Lee, a graduate of Newport High School, won his second consecutive NWAACC Individual Championship May 18-19, helping BCC to a second place team finish. Lee also was named to the All-Region team.
With a 9-1 record, the BCC Men’s Golf team ran away with the Northern Region Championship in 2008, and sophomore standout Lee was singled out as an All-Region performer.
The NWAACC officially announced Bellevue as the regional champion on May 21, after the Bulldogs had backed up their regular season with a runner-up finish at the NWAACC Championship Tournament, where they fell just one shot shy of champion Walla Walla Community College.
Lee, one of only four golfers from the region selected for All-Region honors, proved himself to be the best of the best at the championships as well, winning the tournament’s individual title by two strokes. It was the second consecutive NWAACC Championship for Lee, who also took home the title in 2007 by a single stroke.
Lee next will take his talents to the national level next year, having already accepted a scholarship offer to attend the University of Washington.
Bellevue Head Coach Kirk Johanson was voted the NWAACC Coach of the Year for orchestrating the program’s remarkable two-year rise to the competitive elite in the NWAACC. After struggling in their inaugural season, BCC finished 9-1 in 2007-08, tops among Northern Region teams.
