Newport soccer wins, finishes third

Newport used a 2-1 win over Mount Si to finish in third place in KingCo 3A, one point ahead of Skyline and one point below Sammamish.

Scott Staples scored in the 59th minute to give the Knights (10-4-2) a 1-0 lead, then assisted on Curtis Stensland’s goal in the 68th minute.

McLean Webster scored the only goal for Mount Si (4-8-4), an unassisted tally in the 79th minute.

Other Games

Mercer Island 2, Sammamish 1

Nick Ward scored twice for Mercer Island, as the Islanders beat the Totems 2-1 in a game that decided KingCo 3A’s regular season champion.

Mercer Island (11-3-2) finished first in the conference with the win with 35 points, while Sammamish finished in second with 33.

Derek Wu scored for the Totems (10-3-3), who led 1-0 until Wards first goal in the 49th minute.

Skyline 4, Bellevue 1

Four different Spartans scored goals as Skyline beat Bellevue 4-1, securing a fourth-place finish for Skyline.

Josh Twaddle, Edgar Esquivel, Travis Strawn and Alex Kimble all scored for the Spartans (9-4-3). Viktor Drangnell scored in the 73rd minute for Bellevue (8-7-1). The Wolverines lost their final three regular season games.

Interlake 2, Issaquah 2

Lucas Morais scored in the 68th to help Issaquah rally from a 2-1 deficit to tie Interlake 2-2 in the regular season finale for both teams.

Issaquah (3-10-3) lead 1-0 before Nathan McGuire and Jordan Con scored two goals for the Saints (2-11-3).

Eastside Catholic 1, Bainbridge 0

Quinn Sinser scored and Alex Calvert picked up the shutout as Eastside Catholic (4-4-2 Metro League Mountain Division) held on to defeat first-place Bainbridge 2-1.
