The prep cross country season is underway and a handful of area preps are near the top of the list in 3A and 4A KingCo.

Interlake's Sam Giner has posted the best time of 2012 in the 5,000 meters, running 15.42 seconds at the recent Twilight Invitational. Bellevue's Spike Sievert is second, just hundredths behind Giner, and Jay Taves (Interlake), Kyle Pratt (Bellevue) and Luke Beauchamp are also in the top-10.

For the girls, Interlake's Nikita Waghani has posted the fastest time of the year at 19.23 seconds, which she ran at Twilight.

Teammate Antoinette Tansley is third, followed by Bellevue's Julia Ellings. Nadia Lucas (Interlake), Katherine Penner (Bellevue) and Annie Davis (Interlake) round out the local preps in the top-10.

Newport's Jessica Spray is the only Knight female runner in the top-10, with a 18.44 that is good for third best in the conference so far this season.

Christophe Chamberland is in a 10th place tie for Newport at 16.10.

Bellevue Christian's Daniel Nortz and Kyle Smit are both in the top-10 of the 1A Nisqually Conference, which the Vikings joined as a full member this season.

Isabella Chaffey and Emily Donnell are in the top-10 on the girls side for BCS.
