Stephen Raymond Reebs

Stephen Raymond Reebs

Steve was born on Nov. 15, 1956, the son of Dr. Frederick William and Lois (Brown Byrholdt) Reebs. The oldest of five children, Steve was raised in Bellevue, Wash. He swam competitively for Newport High School and UW. He received a B.S. from WSU in Electrical Engineering in 1984. He worked as a software engineer for Boeing and retired in 2008, after 20+ years. He married Gena (Rochat) in 1990 and the couple lived in Seattle with their two cats. They traveled to Disneyland, Hong Kong, U.K. & Europe and drove Route 66. Steve loved music, photography and collecting Pez. He volunteered for Lake City Presbyterian Church’s Hunger Intervention Program (HIP) for feeding the homeless. Steve enjoyed swimming, biking and running. He raced in nearly 20 triathlons in four years (often placing top 3 of his age group) and finished a triathlon three days before being diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer in 2005. He truly was a “superman” as he traveled on his difficult three-year journey of surgeries and chemotherapy. His positive attitude, fortitude and love of life made him a role model to all he encountered. Steve, 52, passed away on Dec. 17, 2008 at home. Steve will be greatly missed by his family, including wife Gena; father Fred Reebs of Bellevue; sisters Linda Lumbard of Camas, Wash., Tricia Elmer of Seattle, and Nancy Tarbert of Bellevue; brother Daniel Reebs of Redmond; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Reebs. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 2:30 p.m. at Lake City Presbyterian Church, 3841 NE 123rd St., Seattle, WA 98125 followed by a reception at the church. Memorial remembrances may be made to HIP, c/o LCPC (www.lakecitypres.org), Cancer Lifeline (www.cancerlifeline.org), or Washington Colon Cancer STARS (www.colonstars.org).
