Stanley Morgan Miller

Surrounded by his loving family, Stan passed away at home on January 20, 2013. Born on August 9, 1929 in Port Townsend, WA to Jack and Ruth Miller. Stan had one brother, Ross, who predeceased him in 1988. Stan graduated from Port Townsend High School in 1947. He entered Washington State College where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Upon graduating from WSC (and ROTC) in 1952, he entered the US Air Force. In 1953, he married Barbara Kitlar of Tacoma, WA, upon her graduation from WSC.

After serving his two years in the Air Force as First Lieutenant, Stan went to work for the FS Harmon Furniture Manufacturing Co. in Tacoma, WA, where he and Barbara bought their first home and began raising their family. When the FS Harmon Co. ceased manufacturing furniture, Stan went to work for Boeing.

Music was an important part of Stan’s life. He played the trumpet in the PTHS and WSC marching bands. Stan also played the bagpipes for 22 years in the original Seattle Bagpipe Band which was formed in 1916, the same year The Boeing Company began. Stan was the Pipe Band president and working in Financial Operations at Boeing at the time both organizations were observing their 50th anniversaries.

Stan took an early retirement from Boeing in 1988 and returned to the FS Harmon Co., which had become a commercial lease-holding enterprise, serving as Vice President/Treasurer. He concurrently was Treasurer for the Performing Arts Festival of the Eastside and also served as the Eastside Music Festival Foundation Treasurer for 19 years.

Stan is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, and his four children: Evelyn (Max), Cynthia (Bud), Michael and Valerie. He delighted in the lives and growth of grandchildren Meredith, Andrew, Rachel, Alex, and Hannah, and great-grandchildren Anna and Sophie. Stan’s family was his greatest treasure.

No funeral services were held at his request.
