Jean Power Benson

Jean Benson passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 14, 2016 in Long Lake, Minnesota.

Jean was born January 2, 1926 in Lovington, New Mexico. She graduated from Lovington High School. She received her bachelor’s degree from Colorado State University in Fort Collins and her master’s degree and doctorate in education from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.

In 1947 Jean married Charles “Chuck” Benson in Lovington. They lived in Texas, Utah, Alabama, and Florida while Chuck served in the United States Air Force.

Her teaching career began in Lovington. She also taught in the public school system in Greeley and at the University of Northern Colorado. She retired from the Bellevue Public Schools in 1989.

The Bensons moved to Bellevue in 1968. Jean was a member of the Bellevue Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon. She was an active member in P.E.O.

Jean was devoted to her family. She enjoyed her friends, traveling, reading, and shopping.

Jean is survived by her son, David, of Long Lake, Minnesota, and grandchildren Brienne of Long Lake and Brett, who lives in Washington, DC.

A private memorial service will be held. Remembrances may be made to the Bellevue Presbyterian Church, or to a charity of your choice.
