Georgie Peterson

Georgie (Jo Mabin) Peterson

Georgie (Jo Mabin) Peterson, formerly of Bellevue, WA passed away on February 28, 2016. She was 88 years old.

Georgie grew up in Red Wing, Minnesota and moved to Portland, Oregon at 15. She met Rod Peterson in High School, and married him when he returned from serving in the Navy overseas. She is preceded in death by Rod who she was married to for 55 years.

Georgie was a great mom, an active community leader, and a successful business owner. Georgie was also a talented pianist and played the organ at her church. After moving to Seattle in 1966, she purchased a Snelling and Snelling franchise and at one time owned both the Burien and Renton offices. The Burien office, which she ran, was consistently in the top 20 franchises in the nation, and she owned and managed it until 1994, when she sold it to retire. In 1981 she was honored to be appointed by the Governor of the State of Washington to the Employment Agency advisory board, where she assisted in in creating the laws that govern recruiting firms in Washington today.

Georgie and Rod were members of the Order of the Amaranth, and Eastern Star. She also was President of the Burien Chamber of Commerce, and one of the first women presidents of the Burien/White Center Rotary. After retiring she and Rod stayed close to Seattle balancing their time between Bellevue and Whidbey Island.

Georgie was an avid reader, an animal lover, and loved playing bridge. She is survived by her children, Steve (Aleta), Bruce, and Debbie (Joe) Oberbillig.

A Celebration of her life and reception will be held on April 23, 2016 at 11:30am at the Lakeside Lodge in Bellevue, WA.
