State troopers issue more than 50 warnings on first day of I-405 tolling

Troopers issued more than 50 warnings to motorists who violated traffic laws on the first day of the new 405 tolling lanes on Sept. 27, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Troopers issued more than 50 warnings to motorists who violated traffic laws on the first day of the new 405 tolling lanes on Sept. 27, the Washington State Patrol reported.

“Troopers issued 52 warnings to motorists who violated traffic laws associated with the new system,” Trooper Chris Webb said in a press release. “The majority of those warnings were for motorists crossing the double white line that separates the toll lanes from the regular lanes of traffic.”

Troopers will reportedly use the first several weeks educating motorists of the changes involved in the new toll lanes with warnings and literature.

As with any traffic stop a trooper has discretion in whether or not to issue a citation, Webb said.  If a trooper believes that a motorist is deliberately defrauding the new toll system or driving in a manner that is not safe, a citation may be issued to the driver.
