UPDATE: Police have named Tanjanique Hillis, described as Wendell Downs’ girlfriend, as a suspect in aiding Downs’ escape from outside the Bellevue Courthouse Friday morning.

Hillis is the owner of a blue Crown Victoria, the same vehicle Downs is believed to have entered when he was last seen by police. The vehicle is registered with license plate number AJW8923, though police noted that is not likely the current plate on the vehicle.

Hillis is 20 years old, 5-foot-4-inches and 125 pounds.

A 20-year-old man in prisoner custody escaped outside the Bellevue District Courthouse around 11 a.m. Friday morning. Police were searching for the man, identified as Wendell Downs III, who was still in a red prison jumpsuit and restraints at the time of his escape.

Downs was last seen running south from the Courthouse. He is believed to have escaped in a blue Crown Victoria waiting near the courthouse on Southeast 6th and 112th Avenue Southeast, close to the West Bellevue neighborhood of the city.

Police identified the suspect on its Twitter feed as Downs, described in a later media release as a medium-build 6-foot, 174-pound light-skinned black male with several tattoos on his neck and arms. Police say he should be considered dangerous.

Downs was being held for first-degree robbery, second-degree organized retail theft, second-degree theft and first-degree theft.
