Outdoor camp to teach youth survival skills

Imagine that you are 10 years old and are separated from your group on a hike in the woods.  Much time has passed and it seems there is little hope that you will find them before dark sets in.  Would you know what to do if you were lost in the woods?  What if you were forced to stay in the wilderness overnight and unprepared?

Nature Vision is offering a new Summer Wilderness Camp from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 21 to 24, at Lewis Creek Park in Bellevue.  Campers will be guided by trained naturalists in how to survive an unexpected overnight in the wilderness, including how to build a temporary shelter, and learn about the native plants at Lewis Creek Park and make crafts from the plants they harvest.

Lewis Creek Park is a 55 acre park situated at the headwaters of Lewis Creek and offers natural areas accessible by boardwalks and soft-surface trails.  The park is located at 5808 Lakemont Blvd., Bellevue

Cost for the four-day camp is $120 and is appropriate for both boys and girls ages 7 through 12. Deadline for registration and payment is July 10.  For more information and to register, contact info@naturevision.org.

Nature Vision, a non-profit organization based in Redmond, each year teaches over 40,000 children and adults about natural resource and stewardship issues. More information is available at www.naturevision.org.
