Old Main event to raise funds for kids

What do delicious food, big bubbles and decorating sunglasses have to do with strengthening services for children in East and North King County? The answer is: everything.

The first Taste of Main celebration will open the doors of dozens of businesses on Bellevue’s Historic Main Street for a new event designed to highlight the services, and raise critical funding for the Children’s Response Center.

The event, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., will be along Main Street between 100th Avenue and Bellevue Way.

Cost of the event is $25 for adults, $10 for kids. The charge covers a “passport” that provides adults with appetizer, entrée, dessert, and two beverages (including wine) while the child’s passport provides a drink, entrée and dessert.

Participating restaurants include Bis On Main, 520 Bar & Grill, Gilbert’s, Amore Chocolates and others.

Entertainment will be provided.

During the event, dozens of the stores will host kid-friendly activities. Families can enjoy activities such as decorating eyeglasses, getting their faces painted, exploring police vehicles and a fire truck and dancing to a live band.

Taste of Main will support Children’s Response Center, which is a program of Harborview Medical Center and the University of Washington. CRC provides support and services for children under age 18 in East and North King County who have experienced sexual assault or other traumatic events.

Children’s Response Center also provides services for parents and other family members and prevention services in the community. For more information, visit www.ChildrensResponseCenter.org.
