Bellevue Police collected eight boxes (290 lbs) of unwanted medications Saturday as part of the national Take-Back Drug Day.

The controlled, non-controlled, and over the counter medications — accepted with no questions asked, were collected at three police locations in Bellevue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Bellevue Police collected eight boxes (398 lbs) last year.

“Perhaps the lower overall take can be attributed to the success of last year’s event and the fact that we are actually making a dent in the amount of pills that are out there,” commented Major Michael Johnson. “The campaign’s efforts are working.”

Police personnel reported a very appreciative public who were very grateful for the opportunity to safely dispose of their unused medications.
