BAM offers volunteer docent training programs for teens and adults. The adult program has 68 active docents. Thirty hours of annual service is required.

Docents lead public and private tours; offer the World Languages Program for museum tours in German, Japanese, French and Dutch; participate in special curator/artist sessions; and hear regular lectures and guest speakers.

Provisional docents (docents-in-training) complete a September-June training program. There is a $225 fee for course text, lecture fees and expenses.

The teen docent program is actively recruiting for the 8-month training program that begins next fall. Teen docents meet as a group with mentors 1-2 times per month, learning about exhibitions, craft and touring techniques. Then they begin giving public and private tours in the galleries. Participants receive high school community service credit. There is no charge for this program.
