Kemper Freeman, Jr. donates to Bellevue Arts Museum

The Bellevue Arts Museum received twin donations from Bellevue real estate developer Kemper Freeman, Jr. in November, both of which will serve to improve the facility.

At the museum’s Breakfast for Community Leaders on Nov. 9, Freeman — owner of Kemper Development Company and the Bellevue Collection — continued his family’s tradition of supporting the museum with the gifts.

The first gift is a $1 million donation specifically designated for capital expenditures on Bellevue Arts Museum’s building. The museum is located adjacent to Freeman’s Bellevue Collection at 510 Bellevue Way NE.

Freeman expressed his commitment to the museum in a press release.

“We are pleased to support the Bellevue Arts Museum and arts and culture on the Eastside,” he said. “My family has a long history with BAM that dates back to the first iteration of BAM ARTSfair in 1947, and I am excited to help kick off this important first component to help BAM garner additional support from the community.”

The second gift is a $1 million matching gift where the Freeman family and its companies will match one dollar for every two dollars the museum raises in upcoming fundraising efforts.

These gifts will allow the museum to “make key external and internal updates to the iconic Stephen Holl designed building,” museum staff said.

The Breakfast for Community Leaders raised a record-breaking $66,000 including the match from the Freeman family.
