Jackson sentenced to life in prison for Bellevue woman’s death

The man who killed his fiance in a hit-and-run while he should have been in jail was sentenced Dec. 9 to life in prison.

Robert T. Jackson, 39, received a life term for the death of Lindsay Hill in November 2015. Jackson was speeding down Southeast 60th Street in Bellevue when he hit a 3,000 pound electrical box, killing the mother-of-two in the crash.

It was initially reported by police and witnesses that Jackson had recently been released from prison. It was later revealed that he was one of thousands of inmates released early by accident due to a computer glitch.

At the time of the fatal car crash, Jackson should have still been incarcerated.

Department of Corrections Secretary Dan Pacholke apologized to Hill’s family on the department’s behalf.

“Nothing I can say will bring back Ms. Hill. I deeply regret that this happened,” he said.

Following an investigation his office, Attorney General Bob Ferguson later said that the computer error and decisions officials made afterwards “failed the people of Washington.”
