I-405 reopens after Bellevue motorcycle units collide

Motorcycle officers who were escorting a portable structure collided and injured but are expected to be ok.

A collision involving two Bellevue police officers closed down all northbound I-405 lanes at the Lake Washington Boulevard interchange for more than an hour during Thursday morning’s rush hour.

As the two motorcycle units escorted a portable structure, they collided and blocked all I-405 lanes, according to tweets from Washington State trooper Rick Johnson. The Bellevue Police Department tweeted that the motorcycle officers are expected to be OK.

The collision occurred just after 5 a.m. and closed all lanes until they reopened at about 6:48 a.m. This made an enormous impact on the morning commute and backed up I-405 from I-90 to the Renton S-curves before spreading to local roads and northbound I-5, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation on Twitter.
