Democratic contenders for the 1st congressional district, which now includes parts of Bellevue, will have the chance to argue their candidacy in a debate led by three local journalists on June 27 in Redmond.

The candidates participating in the debate include Darcy Burner, Suzan DelBene, Steve Hobbs, Darshan Rauniyar and Laura Ruderman.

They are running for a seat in a congressional district that experienced significant boundary changes after the 2010 census. It now includes Medina, Clyde Hill, the Points communities and a portion of Northeast Bellevue.

The seat is empty after former congressman Jay Inslee resigned to run for governor.

The discussion will be led by a journalist from KCTS 9 Public Television, the Seattle Times and the Everett Herald.

The moderators will ask questions at their discretion related to key issues for the November election. Audience members will have the opportunity to submit questions to be asked later in the debate.

The Democratic Party from the 5th, 45th and 48th legislative districts is sponsoring the event. The debate will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center located at 16600 NE 80th St.
