Bellevue student Xiaoyue Chen named state AP scholar

Xiaoyue Chen of Newport High School in Bellevue has been received a State AP Scholar from the Office of the Governor. Chen is among more than 100 nationwide to receive the honor.

“I congratulate Xiaoyue for receiving this prestigious recognition,” said Gov. Chris Gregoire. “This award proves commitment to achievement and desire to use education to become productive citizens in our communities.”

This is the 18th annual granting of the awards. The College Board awards this distinction to the one male and one female student in each state and the District of Columbia with grades of three or higher on the greatest number of AP exams , and then the highest average grade (at least 3.5) on all AP exams taken.

Chen is a student at the University of Southern California.
