Bellevue Fire Department evacuates apartment after garbage truck damages carport

A garbage truck caused a stir at an apartment complex in Bellevue on Tuesday afternoon, necessitating an evacuation.

The truck took too tight of a turn at the apartment complex, located in the 15500 block of Northeast 12th Street, and clipped a covered car port.

The truck knocked the car port off its supports and made it unstable. The 25 residents of the apartment complex’s 12 units were evacuated by the Bellevue Fire Department.

Brian Gomez, the fire department’s public information officer, said there were no injuries and the Red Cross was working with residents to relocate them until repairs could be made to the carport.
