Chinook Middle School PTSA embezzler pleads guilty

John David Glass, of Clyde Hill, pleaded guilty Wednesday to first-degree theft for embezzling money from the Chinook Middle School PTSA while he was treasurer for the organization. Glass is scheduled for sentencing on Aug. 13. Prosecutors are recommending the maximum sentence of 90 days in jail. The former treasurer reportedly stole over $63,000 from the Chinook PTSA. The group’s board of directors first became suspicious when they learned that their account was down to $400. The board later found a debit card in Glass' name, along with unauthorized transactions that included motel and hunting-license charges in South Dakota, a payment at Kenmore Shooting Range, and checks payable to Glass' wife, according to court documents. The group also learned that Glass had transferred over $25,000 from its annual fundraising drive to the marketing-research and strategy firm Ten Acrea LLC, which Glass was running. Glass admitted to the PTSA board in November that he took funds from the group's account. Court documents say he repaid $64,125. Glass has served as a coach and youth director for Bellevue Boys Lacrosse. He also helped run a charity group called Guys Night Out, which raises funds to help children suffering from abuse and neglect, according to the group’s web site.
