Late night drivers headed from southbound I-5 to eastbound SR 520 should expect delays Monday through Thursday nights this week as crews finish installing high-tech electronic signs.

Crews will close the ramp from southbound I-5 to eastbound SR 520 at 11 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning. Travelers will be redirected to northbound I-5 to access eastbound SR 520.

A signed detour will guide drivers to the Mercer Street exit, right on Fairview Avenue, left on Valley Street, left on Terry Ave N. returning to Mercer Street to reach northbound I-5 and the entrance ramp to eastbound SR 520.

The work is part of WSDOT’s Smarter Highways project. Crews are installing new traffic management technology that will help reduce congestion and collisions on I-5, SR 520 and I-90. Drivers will use Smarter Highways on three of Washington’s busiest corridors:

· August 2010: northbound I-5 between Boeing Access Road and I-90

· Winter 2010: SR 520 between Bellevue and Seattle

· Spring 2011: I-90 between Bellevue and Seattle
