Patrick Franklin, 40, of Bellevue, was seriously injured Sunday when he was hit by a passing motorist while he was filling up the gas tank of his disabled pickup on the right shoulder of I-5 in Sea-Tac on Sunday.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Franklin was completely off the roadway on southbound I-5 just north of the 200th Street and in the process of filling up the tank when a 24-year-old Auburn man driving a minivan drifted onto the shoulder and hit him.

The State Patrol says the minivan driver had been drinking and detectives believe he may have been using his cell phone at the time of the collision.

Franklin was taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. A passenger in Franklin's vehicle was not injured.

The driver of the minivan was booked into King County Jail for investigation of vehicular assault.
