The City of Newcastle got the red light from the U.S Postal Service in regards to the application for a new ZIP code. Community members applied for a change in ZIP Code due to complaints of delivery and service issues, higher insurance rates, and loss of sales tax. According the USPS, the City of Newcastle population does not satisfy the requirements for a change in ZIP Code.

In a letter to Newcastle City Hall, District officials wrote: "There have been no substantial changes to the number of addresses within the city requiring a ZIP Code, there is no postal facility within the city and there are no ZIP Codes available to use to honor this request. The U.S. Postal Service does not need an additional ZIP Code to successfully deliver mail to the residents of the City of Newcastle."
