Ten organizations in King County will receive funds from the Puget Sound Energy Foundation as part of the foundation’s second round of 2008 grants.

“During these times of economic hardship, the Puget Sound Energy Foundation is pleased to be able to offer another round of grants this year, particularly to organizations that serve those in need,” said Phil Bussey, chairman of the Puget Sound Energy Foundation and senior vice president of Corporate Affairs for Puget Sound Energy.

This round of funding, the fifth since the foundation’s inception in 2006, supports community programs in environmental stewardship, education, the arts and culture, with a particular emphasis on human services. Half of the grants in this round are allocated to organizations that respond to the needs of vulnerable populations.

The grants are awarded based on a competitive review process to qualifying 501(c)(3) charitable organizations in Puget Sound Energy’s 11-county service and broader operations area.

Puget Energy, the parent company of PSE, created the foundation in 2006 with a $15 million endowment. None of the foundation’s funds come from PSE’s utility customers.

The 2008 second-round Puget Sound Energy Foundation grant recipients in King County include:

* Eastside Domestic Violence Program

* First Place

* Friends of Youth

* Maple Valley Food Bank & Emergency Services

* Medical Teams International

* National Parks Conservation Association

* Northwest Burn Foundation

* Northwest Harvest

* Rotary First Harvest

* Washington Trails Association
