Realtors to help restore creek

More than three dozen King County Realtors are expected to meet at Kelsey Creek in Bellevue on Tuesday, Oct. 21 to take part in the second annual “on the ground” project of The Realtors Environmental Council (TREC).
The council is a combined educational/volunteer initiative of the Seattle-King County Association of Realtors.
Working under the direction of the City of Bellevue Parks & Community Services Department, the volunteers will be assisting with the Kelsey Creek West Tributary Restoration Project. The goal is to enhance and restore stream and riparian habitat on approximately 2,000 feet of the stream.
Among their tasks, the Realtors will help install native trees and snags, shrubs and forbs (herbaceous flowering plants) that will result in cooler stream temperatures, vegetative diversity and improved wildlife habitat.
Other elements of the project include restoring the historic Kelsey West Tributary channel, removing fish passage barriers in the stream, replacing bridges to allow for improved stream flows and recreational opportunities, and relocating the historic Fraser cabin to protect it from damaging flood waters.
SKCAR established The Realtors Environmental Council to promote environmental stewardship among Realtors, its affiliate members and homeowners, and to support projects and policies to preserve a healthy natural habitat.
