Berton Benton of Bellevue reached the Top 8 in the first-ever Pokémon Video Game Showdown in Florida.

Benton placed in the Top 8 of the Senior Division at the event, where 32 of the most skilled Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl video game players from the U.S. battled Japan’s top ranked finalists to determine the ultimate champion.

In addition to reaching the Top 8 competitors, Benton also won a custom Nintendo DS Game System and a six-day vacation package for four to either New York City, Honolulu, or Tokyo.

The competition took place on Aug. 16 in Orlando, Fla.
