WSP investigating I-90 death in Bellevue as suicide
The Washington State Patrol says it is investigating the death of a 70-year-old Washington woman Sunday night on westbound Interstate 90 at 142nd Place Southeast in Bellevue as a suicide, the woman having apparently jumped from the overpass around 9:45 p.m. and later being struck by a motorist.
"From what we have so far, it appears she probably jumped," said Trooper Chris Webb, "and there's some other evidence that leads that way."
Webb said a motorist stopped after they realized they struck something in the roadway, and several emergency calls were received by WSP after. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and has not yet been identified by the King County Medical Examiner's Office.
State patrol believes only one vehicle struck the victim - the motorist is cooperating with law enforcement - but is seeking witnesses who may have seen something there that night, or anyone in the area at that time who may have unknowingly struck the victim.
Anyone with information about the collision or events leading up to it is encouraged to contact Detective Greg Wilcoxson or Trooper Keith Gaffin at (425) 401-7746 or (425) 401-7788, Ext. 1, respectively.
