UPDATE: Pedestrian struck on I-405 in Newcastle Friday night has died

UPDATE May 14 9:25 a.m.: 27-year-old Joseph L. Baker, the pedestrian who entered traffic in the northbound lanes of I-405 Friday night, died from his injuries at Harborview Medical Center.

A report from Washington State Patrol indicated the driver of the vehicle that struck Baker was not under the influence of alcohol.

A pedestrian was struck in the northbound lanes of I-405 around 11 p.m. Friday night after leaving the vehicle he was riding in and entering lanes of traffic, shutting down the interstate near the Coal Creek Parkway exit.

Washington State Patrol spokeswoman Julie Judson said a female driver pulled her vehicle to the side of the road and the male passenger, who had become agitated, ran into traffic and was struck by a Jeep Cherokee and taken to Harborview Medical Center.

Neither driver was injured and only one vehicle was involved.
