3 Bellevue residents named Living Treasures at BCC for diversity
Three Bellevue residents have been named Living Treasures by Bellevue Community Colleges Diversity Caucus. Nora Lance, Associate Director of Student Programs, was chosen as one of four employees to receive the honor, while students Michael Akrish and Katie Wilson were among the four student Living Treasures.
The designation of Living Treasure honors those who have made a difference in advancing pluralism on the Bellevue Community College campus. A celebration dinner is held annually to honor new and past honorees.
Living Treasures, says Diversity Caucus member Akemi Matsumoto, serve as models and mentors, providing inspiration with their purpose, heart and wisdom. They are our folk heroes who live amongst us. This special distinction is our gift to our beloved elders as well as an expression of our gratitude for all they have done.
BCCs Diversity Caucus is a grassroots, anti-racism organization that sponsors several ongoing programs, including Courageous Conversations, where both faculty and students are invited to discuss race.
