BC to launch new emergency training program

Bellevue College will launch a new, two-track training program in April to prepare new workers and current medical personnel for work as emergency department technicians (EDTs).
Students who are new to emergency medical work will follow a 44-credit curriculum, which can be completed in five quarters.
Experienced emergency medical technicians and certified nursing assistants may follow a 20-credit version of the program, which can be completed in two quarters.
An information session for potential students will be held Feb. 15, at 11:30 a.m. in room 229 of the B Building on the college’s main campus.

The only program of its kind in the Puget Sound region, BC’s EDT program was created to fill a need for more emergency-department personnel trained in orthopedic splinting, wound care, electrocardiograms and related skills.
The program was developed with assistance from Highline Medical Center, Providence Health and Services, Snoqualmie Valley Hospital, Swedish Medical Center, UW/Harborview Medical Centers and Virginia Mason Medical Center.
