August 24, 2010 · 12:06 PM
A 88-year-old Bellevue resident was struck by a vehicle at 4:20 p.m. Monday while crossing Richards Road at SE 26th Street. The driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck struck the female in the crosswalk knocking her to the ground.
The female sustained multiple serious injuries and was transported immediately to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Richards Road was closed until 7:30 p.m. while traffic investigators determined the cause of the collision.
A 22-year-old Mercer Island man was turning southbound onto Richards Road when he struck the female. The driver tried to brake but was unable to stop. The front of his vehicle pushed her to the pavement.
Initial indications reveal that drugs or alcohol were not a factor in this accident. The female is in critical condition.
