SR 520 floating bridge reopens to traffic
August 23, 2010 · 8:10 AM
The State Route 520 floating bridge reopened to traffic today at 4:30 a.m. following the annual weekend closure for bridge maintenance and inspection work.
Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) crews closed the floating bridge at 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20 from Montlake Boulevard in Seattle to 92nd Avenue NE on the Eastside. During the weekend, crews performed in-depth mechanical and electrical inspections and repairs to make sure the bridge is ready for winter weather.
Crews performed preventive maintenance on systems that allow the drawspan to open, as well as other maintenance on the bridge. Inspection results will be available in coming months.
To help ease heavy westbound traffic across the lake on Saturday, the I-90 express lanes were shifted to the westbound direction and remained westbound through the weekend.
