Amazon General Counsel will headline ‘Breakfast for Justice’

David Zapolsky, founder of the Amazon Justice League, will speak at the fundraising event on May 9.

Members of the legal community will gather with business and civic leaders on May 9, for the 8th annual Breakfast for Justice hosted by the Eastside Legal Assistance Program (ELAP) at Meydenbauer Center.

David Zapolsky, SVP, General Counsel and Secretary of Amazon, will be featured speaker in a fireside chat with King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg.

Zapolsky manages a broad range of domestic and international legal, compliance and regulatory affairs for Amazon. He is also active in several organizations that, among other things, seek to promote diversity and pro bono work in the legal profession. He serves as a Trustee of the King County Bar Foundation, a member of the Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) Washington State Advisory Committee and a Director of Seattle’s Alliance for Education.

In 2013, Zapolsky founded the Amazon legal department’s pro bono initiative, also known as the Amazon Justice League, which encourages and enables Amazon attorneys and legal professionals around the world to donate thousands of hours of pro bono legal work each year.

Prior to joining Amazon in 1999, Zapolsky was a litigation partner in the Seattle offices of Dorsey and Whitney and Bogle and Gates. Earlier in his career while in New York, he served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, focusing primarily on sex crimes, child abuse and domestic violence prosecutions.

The ELAP Breakfast for Justice raises funds that are critical to support pro bono legal services for low-income residents of East, Northeast and Southeast King County and survivors of domestic violence throughout King County.

An audience of 500-plus is expected for the May 9 event, where attendees will hear how free legal services have impacted the lives of ELAP clients. Check-in will begin at 7 a.m. at Meydenbauer Center, 11100 NE 6th St. in Bellevue. The program will run from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Register at www.elap.org.

The annual event is made possible through the generous support of area law firms, businesses and individual donors. Those interested in sponsorship opportunities should contact ELAP Development Director Alexandra Comstock at 425-747-7274 x211 orAlexandra@elap.org.
