Trump’s immigration policies are cruel | Letter

This is in response to David Steven’s March 17 letter. Trump’s immigration policies can be carried out only with great cruelty. Trump cannot round up millions without turning this country into a police state. Thousands of additional Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents will have to be recruited, mass arrests made and new jails built to hold the detainees. Individuals who have been in this country since they were children are under threat. Young children born in this country risk having their parents taken away. Companies could see the loss of key employees. As for sanctuary cities, the failure to ask about immigration status of an individual does not constitute hiding or harboring. Local and state officials are not legally obliged to enforce federal legislation.
