Support for HB 2967 | Letter

Washington needs a more equitable and stable funding plan to support our schools.

I’ve spent the last 20 years advocating for kids, both in Bellevue and across Washington state. I know Washington needs a more equitable and stable funding plan to support our schools. That’s why I support HB 2967, which would generate revenue from our wealthiest residents with a capital gains tax.

We are one of just eight states that doesn’t tax profits made on the sale of stocks, bonds, and other financial assets. Closing this tax break on capital gains will generate hundreds of millions of dollars and ensure our kids have the excellent schools they deserve.

As someone who would be subject to this tax, I am happy to chip in to make sure we have great schools.
