Every Christmas time for the past 15 years or so I have put up a modest light display in our front garden. Now that I am getting on in years, it takes a good number of hours to set up and I groan and grumble.
Why do xMarts get to deny their workers, the right to have a rare family dinner?
During the anniversary of the Sandy Hook elementary school killing, there were mentions of stopping gun violence and gun control. However, our nation needs to focus on “violence,” and the “perpetrator,” the real cause of injury, and death.
In response to Ted Yellman’s letter, responding to my letter, which criticized the King County Prosecutor’s recent editorial: I did not, as Yellman asserts, criticize the editorial for suggesting causality. Rather, my criticism was for the clear assertion of causality contained in this quote from the editorial: “Every layer of education is like a protective blanket that protects the potential of that young person and protects our community.”
Wait a minute, extend City Hall Plaza to provide connectivity to the future site of the Bellevue Transit Center Station on Northeast Sixth Street?
Anyone paying attention to the goings-on in Olympia would know that there’s nothing bipartisan about the Senate “majority coalition” under the leadership of Bellevue’s Sen. Rodney Tom.
Bryan Weinstein’s Dec. 6 letter about the tent city is right on target. But what is the “foundational work” we need to do to ensure all people have the basics of life – food, shelter and clothing?
The recent letter from Bill Hirt (“CO2 global warming justification?”) seems to be word-for-word from an article by Marco Marano for a climate change denier website.
A recent letter from Timothy Siegel faulted the King County Prosecuting Attorney for suggesting that there is a cause-and-effect relationship between dropping out of high school and committing a crime. Siegel correctly pointed out that fetal alcohol syndrome, for example, might cause both events. However, he seems to have missed the fact that dropping out of high school in itself can still be causal.
We can only hope that King County Prosecutor Daniel Satterberg was being disingenuous in his opinion article in the Nov. 29 issue of The Reporter. I would hate to think that he actually believes that because those who don’t finish high school are more likely to commit crime that there is a cause and effect relationship between the two.
Hundreds of billions of dollars have been spent over the last 15 years to reduce the amount of “man made” CO2 emitted into the atmosphere as a way to prevent global warming. Those advocating for these policies should be aware of information and conclusions based on recent ice core studies.
I wonder if today’s unions and socialists (admitted or otherwise) realize to what extent they are destroying jobs and the area’s future, accelerating inflation and increasing dependency on the government, if they just don’t care or if those are their goals.
On Nov. 19 we celebrated Lunch with a Hero at Emerald Heights Academy whereby we invite local law enforcement and fire department personnel to visit our school and speak to our students about the jobs they perform within the community and then join the students for lunch. They did an outstanding job of engaging the children
It’s amazing that Bellevue high school students perform at such a high level in water sports without an indoor competition pool.
Why are American so anti taxation even when taxes are necessary for a common good like health care or fixing infrastructure, etc. I think it goes back to the American Revolution, which was more about not paying taxes as opposed to wanting to create a country in which all mankind are treated equally and fairly.
The Bellevue Planning Commission began its foray into the neighborhoods Nov. 16. Following up with the timely discussion of affordable housing in the Lake Hills area, the commission met at Bellevue College instead of City Hall.
Call me old fashion, but I do believe in the holiday between Halloween and Christmas. We refer to it as Thanksgiving.
A sharp-eyed library patron pointed out a letter in the Bellevue Reporter, posted Nov 12,, expressing concern about Sunday hours at the Bellevue Library. I’m not sure where the misinformation came from I have some excellent news! The Bellevue Library is not closed on Sundays.
Congratulations to all those who will be sitting on the next Bellevue City Council. My race for Position No. 2 passed many people by, but I’d like to thank everyone who voted for me (yes – that’s both of you), and those who indulged me along the way.
The recent little noted federal requirement those treated for mental disorders receive the same degree of care as those with physical problems has some significant implications.
